During a visit to the Fireworks Event at Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey, you get more than just a firework display. We’d been to previous events and knew about the musket firing, demonstrating weapons from the time of Guy Falkes, but hadn’t seen the cannon before. Capturing a cannon as it fire’s in the dark is a challenge but with pre-determined focus using candles nearby and a shutter speed of 1.6 seconds (handheld, as it was too busy to set up the tripod), I managed to capture this. There is a slight blur, but even a tripod would have shaken as it fired, as well as the movement of the cannon and the people tending to it. Overall I’m pleased with the result of this unexpected opportunity.
