I’ve seen a number of comments & discussions on other forums, that HDR isn’t photography, some seem to dislike it with a passion.  HDR can bring out some stunning features if done ‘properly’, whatever that means.  Do you go full on and really push the limits, or subtle?  It’s down to each individual photographer to decide, and we’d probably all process an image differently, not just because of software differences.  Either way you still need the right photograph to start – good compostion and an eye for the detail that you hope to bring out later.  I process my images in Canon’s Digital Photo Professional & PS Elements.
